On this page, you find information on all forthcoming activities of the Finnish Society of Forest Science and its science clubs.

We often organise the activities in the House of Sciences and Letters (Tieteiden talo), address of which is Kirkkokatu 6, 00170 Helsinki. In the case of another place, the exact address is given with the name of the place.

The day’s program includes the annual meeting, a seminar, and a visit to Stora Enso’s new office building in Katajanokka. The anniversary celebration will conclude with a joint dinner. Registration is closed.

27 through 29 August 2025Excursion of the Finnish Society of Forest Science to LatviaOur host will be the Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava” (www.silava.lv). The programme will include, among other sites, an afforestation experiment and its impact on carbon balance and biological diversity, small-scale logging, climate-smart management of Norway spruce and beech, a visit to the laboratories of Silava, Riga city forest management and human-forest relationships in Latvia. Working language during the excursion will be English. The price of the excursion will be 290 € for the members of the Finnish Society of Forest Science and 360 € for all others. 9 January 2025 17:00-17:45, Room 104 of the House of Sciences and Letters and YuotubePanel discussion “Deforestation in Finland”Although deforestation is considered as a historic phenomenon in Finland, the forest area of the country still diminishes. The change over years has been significant. In this panel discussion, the topic will be examined by Dr Liisa Kulmala (Finnish Meteorological Institute), Dr Aino Assmuth (Natural Resources Institute Finland) and Dr Tuomo Kalliokoski (Ministry of the Environment). The moderator of the discussion will be Assistant Professor Anna Lintunen (University of Helsinki). The discussion will be part of the Night of Science event.
