#Metsätiede2025
Afternoon parallel session of the Silviculture Club
In forests, in their natural state, a more or less clear differentiation into several canopy layers can often be seen. We talk about the canopy layers formed by emergent trees, dominant trees, intermediate trees, undergrowth and understory. In peatlands, commercial forests are also often layered. Forest management with an uneven-aged structure increases the share of the layered forests.
To what extent are our forests layered today? What challenges and benefits does the layered nature of forests pose to forest management? Can we promote the layering of forests, especially in mineral soils? How do we maintain layering in the regeneration, seedling stand management and growing phases?
We invite presentations related to this theme. Please submit a one-page abstract by 24 August 2025 to Heli Viiri (heli . viiri [] upm . com). She can also provide additional information about the session.
Please follow the guidelines in this sample abstract.
