Silva Fennica in a Nutshell

Focus and Scope. Silva Fennica publishes significant new knowledge on forest sciences. The scope covers research on forestry and forest ecosystems. Silva Fennica aims to increase understanding on forest ecosystems, and sustainable use and conservation of forest resources.

Brief History. Silva Fennica continues the legacy of Acta Forestalia Fennica, which was established in 1913 for distributing results of forest research worldwide. Silva Fennica itself was established in 1926 for “short communications in forest sciences” (modern research articles). The journals merged in 2000. Silva Fennica’s abstracts have been online since 1994 and full-text articles since 1998. Today, Silva Fennica is an online only journal.

Independent, Non-profit Publisher. Silva Fennica is published by the Finnish Society of Forest Science, a learned society established in 1909 to stimulate scientific discussion and cooperation within the forest research community, to enhance communication between researchers and practical foresters, and to promote public interest in forest research.

Networking and Indexing. Silva Fennica is a journal member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Web of Science, and Scopus. Article meta data are uploaded to Crossref when assigning the DOI. Long-term access is secured by the CLOCKSS archive.
