Afternoon parallel session of the Forest Economist Club
Research in forest economics is layered in many ways. On the one hand, the scale of investigation ranges from the economic optimization of a single forest stand to the analysis of global value chains. On the other hand, the many benefits forests offer create different thematic layers for economic analysis. Forests are subject to conflicting expectations, they are sources of raw material, mitigators of climate change, and important ecosystems. All of this affects the operating environment of the forest sector, from the decisions of individual forest owners to the forest industry, consumer behaviour, and societal decision-making.
In the afternoon session of the Forest Economist’s Club, we will discuss how the following topics and questions have been approached in research related to forest economics and business economics:
- The layers of forest-related economics: Forest economics investigations at different scales, and from the perspectives of microeconomics and macroeconomics.
- The layers of forest-related business operations, as well as production and value chains: How do the perspectives, decision-making, operations and strategies of actors at different levels (e.g., SMEs, large global companies, forest owners) affect forests and their use? What are the different production and value chains associated with forests and how are they linked (systemic perspective)?
- The layers of forest-related decision-making: how do global, EU, and national political decision-making affect forests and their use? How do the perspectives and activities of actors at different levels affect the use of forests and related economic activities?
We invite presentations related to this theme. Please submit a one-page abstract by 24 August 2025 to Jussi Lintunen (jussi . lintunen [] luke . fi). He can also provide additional information about the session.
Please follow the guidelines in this sample abstract.
