#Metsätiede2026
Afternoon parallel session of the Technology Club
The use of forests is increasingly shaped by global sustainability challenges as well as obligations and constraints arising from EU policy. Climate and environmental objectives, together with the related regulation, affect forestry practices and the operating models of the entire forest sector, while also introducing new monitoring and reporting requirements. These changes in the operating environment are directly reflected in wood procurement.
In the future, wood procurement will require more precise information on raw material, operations, and the operating environment, as well as new ways to utilise this information in support of decision-making. Forest technology research plays a key role in this development by providing solutions that enable regulatory requirements to be integrated into practical operations efficiently and purposefully. At the same time, the applicability of Finnish forest technology expertise to diverse global operating environments is becoming increasingly important as part of the international forest sector.
Alongside digitalisation, automation, and the development of information systems, improved data availability, advances in measurement and monitoring methods, modelling, and new analytical methods are opening up new opportunities to address sustainability-related issues in forest use. At the same time, there remains a clear and timely need for traditional forest technology research, such as improving harvesting productivity and preventing soil damage.
The afternoon session of the Forest Technology Club invites presentations that examine forest technology solutions, methods, and/or datasets from the perspective of sustainability challenges and regulation. Presentations may include completed results or preliminary findings from ongoing research.
Please follow the attached guidelines for an abstract and submit your proposal by August 23, 2026 to Tuomas Niinistö (tuomas . niinisto [] luke . fi) who can also provide further information about the event when needed.
The accepted abstracts will be published in the abstract book of Forest Sciences’ Day (License CC BY-SA 4.0).
