#Metsätiede2026
Afternoon parallel session of the Forest Economist Club
Research in forest economics is strongly linked to the global use of forests. The Finnish forest industry has always been active in international markets, and thus research in forest economics also has a long international tradition. The forest industry and industrial wood production are growing strongly outside Finland’s borders, which is changing the operating environment. Forest sector companies operate within global value chains, where sustainability and responsibility are increasingly prerequisites for operating in the market. Global and EU-level policies and regulations (e.g., REDD+, FLEGT, EUDR and LULUCF) as well as agreements, standards and certificates (e.g., PEFC, FSC and ISO) also affect forest management and use.
The afternoon meeting of the Forest Economist’s Club will discuss, among other things, how the following questions have been approached in research related to forest economics:
- How are changes in the global market reflected in the use of forests from the perspective of forest economics research?
- How do global, EU and national political decision-making affect and have affected forests and their use?
- How are the global operating environment and its changes reflected and have been reflected in forest-related business activities and in production and value chains?
We invite presentations related to this theme. Please follow the attached guidelines for an abstract and submit your proposal by August 23, 2026 to Jussi Lintunen (jussi . lintunen [] luke . fi) who can also provide additional information about the session.
The accepted abstracts will be published in the abstract book of Forest Sciences’ Day (License CC BY-SA 4.0).
